<JasonDGI>do we care about created date on datastreams/objects? i noticed its not in there09:16
<ajs6f>It gets autocreated by the JCR, and I report it out in the object profile (at least). It's in there.09:17
jcr:created, I think.
It could be reasonably packed into convenience methods, tho'.09:18
<JasonDGI>whats the difference?09:19
<ajs6f>Difference between what?09:20
<JasonDGI>jcr:created property and convenience method? do we just want the method to expose the property?09:21
<ajs6f>It's indirection. It's not cool to ask people to engage the JCR API when what they asked for is Fedora.
Here's what getting the jcr:created looks like:09:22
obj.getProperty("jcr:created").getString();
(from the backing node of a Fedora Object.)
<JasonDGI>and you propose we wrap that one line in a getter on Datastream
?
<ajs6f>That should just be Date getCreatedDate();
<JasonDGI>*Datastream/Object
<ajs6f>Yes, I propose we let people code again Fedora and not JCR.09:23
<JasonDGI>i see and i think hiding jcr would be helpful to su09:24
*us
<ajs6f>Yes. We all got to get real comfortable with JCR, but we don't have to spend all of our time with it.
<JasonDGI>should it be a calendar or a date? (im not familiar with calendar)09:27
<ajs6f>Erm. I'm actually not that familiar with Java's Date Time stuff. I try to avoid it because it has a terrible rep. eddies— you've been through that trench, right? Any suggestion?09:28
<eddies>return a date09:34
<JasonDGI>so date isnt deprecated?09:36
<ajs6f>https://github.com/ModeShape/modeshape/pull/72209:37
We're such good folks.
I wish Fedora was _my_ downstream consumer.09:38
<JasonDGI>how does jcr store a date? is it a string or number?09:40
<ajs6f>As a Date, I believe.
<JasonDGI>according to netbeans thats not an option
the closest it gets to that is calendar09:41
<ajs6f>Yeah, that' seems right. How about:09:44
new Date(obj.getProperty("jcr:created").getDate().getTimeInMillis())
Eddie— can we spend money to get each of us one of these:09:45
http://www.uniquetitanium.com/Titanium-Escape-Ring_p_493.html
I think we need more Batman-like paraphernalia.
<eddies>i was thinking more like: http://gizmodo.com/5987312/carbon-fiber-flask-at-least-your-booze-will-survive-the-apocalypse09:51
<ajs6f>This is definitely the booziest open source project I've ever worked on.09:53
I mean that as a compliment.
cbeer/JasonDGI: I'm going to correct the setLabel() method on Datastream, as per cbeer's criticism here: https://github.com/futures/fcrepo4/pull/28/files#r318803109:56

<cbeer>ajs6f: so, with CDI..13:34
or, rather, with Spring, i understood part of spring to be our modularization and pluggability enforcer
e.g. i could swap out a class in there with something of my own choosing13:35
<ajs6f>Sure.
<cbeer>or, say, change the port activemq is using
how does that work in CDI-world?
or is that just a separate concern from CDI?
<ajs6f>CDI allows you (but doesn't force you) to offer a "beans.xml" file for that kind of "I want to use an alternative impl" choice.
<cbeer>ah13:36
so explicit configuration
<ajs6f>Let me find a certain link...
http://www.seamframework.org/Documentation/WhatIsBeansxmlAndWhyDoINeedIt
That explains the use of beans.xml pretty well.
<cbeer>cool, thanks.13:37
<ajs6f>The analogy I offered was that the CDI annotations in code are a kind of schema for how components can be wired.
If you only want the minimum that will satisfy that "schema", then you don't need to offer any additional config.
The type system itself can wire up.
But if you don't like, say, our EventBus because you want to use a persistent bus (and not our in-memory bus) you could make that choice in beans.xml.13:38
but if you don't care, then silence is affirmation.
But CDI is really only concerned with wiring, not component-level config. So if you don't like ActiveMQ and want to use a different JMS component, that's a CDI affair. If you want to configure the particularlties of ActiveMQ's on-disk store, that's _not_ a CDI affair.13:40
So it _is_ a different approach to config. I _like_ separating wiring-config and component-specific config, but it may not be to everyone's taste.
Ben.

<cbeer>sorry, i missed that part.
now i'm seeing:15:35
i'd guess we aren't publishing that artifact?
<VincentNG>which artifact?15:36
<cbeer> Could not find artifact org.modeshape:modeshape-parent:pom:3.2-SNAPSHOT in maven2-repository.dev.java.net (http://download.java.net/maven/2/) -> [Help 1]
sorry:
Failed to read artifact descriptor for org.fcrepo:modeshape-web-cmis:jar:3.2-SNAPSHOT: Could not find artifact org.modeshape:modeshape-parent:pom:3.2-SNAPSHOT in maven2-repository.dev.java.net (http://download.java.net/maven/2/) -> [Help 1]15:37
<VincentNG>i see that artifacet in our maven snapshot tho
and im getting something else: Could not find artifact org.fcrepo:fcrepo:pom:4.0-SNAPSHOT and 'parent.relativePath' points at wrong local POM @ line 4, column 11
* kaarefc leaves15:39
<VincentNG>but i saw that error on one of my dev boxes (home versus cdc), i assumed it was my local maven that was corrupted or something
since it worked on the other dev box

<eddies>cbeer: you know where JAVA_HOME is being set for jenkins user?22:45
it's still trying to use java6. i can correct in my session, but we should set it appropriately
<cbeer>it's set in the init script, probably no where else.22:46
(and the deploy script, of course)
<eddies>nm. found it. it's in /etc/profile
